A Progressing Cavity Pump (PCP), also known as a single screw pump, is a type of positive displacement pump widely used in oil production.
In a surface‑driven PCP system, a drive head installed on the wellhead provides power through a sucker rod string to rotate the downhole pump. As the rotor turns inside the stator, sealed cavities are formed and move continuously from the suction end to the discharge end, lifting well fluid to the surface steadily.
PCP systems are especially suitable for heavy or light oil, high sand content, high gas‑liquid ratio wells and directional wells. They feature simple structure, stable operation, low vibration, and strong adaptability to complex well conditions.
